Are You Going Through The Motions?
Training should be fun, as well as challenging. It is a time to share with friends and enjoy the camaraderie of working towards a common goal.
However, there are people in the gym just “going through the motions”. They may be moving, but they may not be focused on what they are doing and the intention of the movement.
Every movement … whether it is foam rolling, warm up, mobility, gymnastics, weightlifting, etc., etc., etc., …. has a purpose and an ideal way of performing the movement in order to obtain the desired stimulus and results.
If we want to get the most benefit of the movement we are performing, then it is best to understand what the purpose of the movement is and to be entirely focused on the intention of that movement. The connection between the mind and the movement is very important in order to make progress.
Many of us have little opportunity to spend time training, so we should make the most of it! If we are distracted and disconnected from what we are doing, our progress will suffer.
When we enter the gym, we should do so with intention. It is one hour of the day when we can forget all about what is going on in the outside world and focus on what we are trying to accomplish in the gym. We should go through every part of the workout, from the warm up to the cool down, with focus and the intention of doing our best to improve the movement.
Remember … practice does not make perfect.
Only PERFECT practice makes perfect!
